Katamine è un progetto folk acustico collaborativo che unisce un cast mutevole di artisti con la musica del cantante/ songwriter Assaf Tager. Il concetto è stato sviluppato per generare un libero flusso di idee, in cui ogni artista e musicista aggiunge il proprio contributo unico al lavoro già densamente bello di Tager. Dopo la laurea all'accademia di musica di Londra, Tager ha cominciato ad intraprendere diversi progetti musicali suonando per Elliot Smith,Moloko e Beth Gibbons (Portishead).Subito dopo, ha deciso di tornare in Israele per perseguire i propri obiettivi,diventando membro dell’eccellente-gruppo israeliano"Family Butchers" prodotti da Bob Weston (Nirvana,Pixies,Guided By Voices, ecc) ma soprattutto ha messo a fuoco il suo progetto solista,trasformandosi in Katamine. Gli sforzi di collaborazione del collettivo Katamine si sono concretizzati in 2 album.Il secondo dei quali,“Lag”,è un disco coinvolgente,profondamente stratificato.Al lavoro di Tager,si unisce quello del noto produttore israeliano Uri Frost e altri grandi nomi della musica indipendente del paese..I media israeliani lo hanno definito come:“un Cd bello, crudele e tenebroso; più doloroso di Elliot Smith,potente come Kurt Cobain”Il successo mediatico ottenuto da “Lag” ha fatto si che un altro leggendario produttore,Wharton Tiers (Sonic Youth,Helmet,Dinosaur Jr),lo chiamasse a New York per registrate nuovo materiale. Katamine è per ora stabile negli Stati Uniti intento a registrare e a portare in giro il successo di “Lag” (in tour con Devendra Banhart) collaborando con artisti di tutto il mondo attraverso il concetto di comunità musicale.In breve tempo è diventato un nome di riferimento per scena folk di New York e di tutta l’east coast.Katamine gets itself started by watching bears, freezing when it's May, and following shadows of harsh scenery. Usually in a fast, intuitive flow, Assaf Tager creates his singer song-writer based music. A bunch of other folks join the collective, and together they watch some more bears, hang out, and make albums. As a band or playing solo, Katamine deals with exploring the sonic space in between skin and bones. Tager (Elliott Smith, Beth Gibbons, Moloko and many others) is joined by the rest of his friends to play and sing strange little songs about dirty little secrets. The unique approach of the ever changing soundtrack underneath dark simple songs, is what makes their music so innovative and interesting. Today the Katamine members are: Uri Frost (Guitar), Haggai Fershtman (Drums), Assaf Tager (Vocals and DelVecchio) and Zoe Polanski (Vocals, Bass and Casio). Yesterday, together with Wharton Tiers (the producer of some of their favourite albums), they all made a bear come alive. Tomorrow, they are going to release their new album.Katamine is an hallucinating singer songwriter, well at least that's how it began.Tager writes the songs, then they all work in the studio, then they record. So now it's a band; Zoe and Uri are in charge of making unique, atmospheric and bizarre sounds. They use tons of effects through every instrument they play.Tager and Fershtman are trying to keep the song structure as unbalanced as they can.
